U.S. Army Lt. Col. Glenna Bergland, public health nurse, 352nd Civil Affairs Command, listens to senior leaders from the Ghana Armed Forces during a medical event as part of exercise African Lion 2023 (AL23) near Yendi, Ghana, June 3, 2023. Ghana and U.S. medical personnel provided free health screenings and medical treatment to civilians from the local community during a medical civic action program. This program served as an opportunity for the partnered medical providers to build rapport and cultural awareness with the local community. Eighteen nations and approximately 8,000 personnel will participate in AL23, U.S. Africa Command's largest annual combined, joint exercise that will take place in Ghana, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia from May 13 – June 18, 2023.
