CHICAGO -- Soldiers from the 780th Military Intelligence Brigade (Cyber) supported a job fair at the Chicago Cyber Conference hosted by the Illinois Institute of Technology, March 31. 1LT Graham Webb, a cyberspace operations officer, and SGT Gegory Braveboy, a cyberspace operations noncommissioned officer (NCO), engaged undergraduate and graduate students from Illinois Tech, along with a few ROTC cadets. For the second year, they were the last table in the hall to have people still waiting and wanting to complete the challenges. #BeAllYouCanBe
“I volunteered for the Chicago Cyber Convention and Brooklyn, N.Y. STEM events. Growing up in Brooklyn, I learned that there was a very negative stigma with the military in general. My family and the community would typically tell their children there's no way they would allow them to join the military. I've always wanted to join because I simply thought the idea of being a Soldier was cool. After going to school for Information Technology, I found out that the Army had IT related jobs including Cyber. I would be able to make use of my degree and get experience while being in the Army so despite what anyone said, I decided to join and experience the good and bad for myself. I wanted to be able to disprove whatever rumors my family heard about the Army and show them that joining the military can be an option for anyone. I'm happy to say that I'm now proof to them that the Army can be an option. I wanted to be able to go back to communities, such as where I grew up, and let them know joining the Army can be an option with opportunities such as Cyber Security. I wanted to let them know how they could take advantage of these opportunities to get whatever end goal they wanted and to let the ones that were interested know how I would prepare if I were them. I also wanted to try to appeal to the students that are probably in a bad situation or not going down a good path to let them know the Army is always an option. The community engagement events allowed me to continue to do my job but take time off to talk to these students know about other options they can consider.” Sgt. Gegory Braveboy, U.S. Army
