Brooke Army Medical Center facility dog McAfee gives a nose bop to then-BAMC Commanding General Brig. Gen. Deydre Teyhen as an acknowledgment of his honorary commissioning as as an honorary U.S. Air Force major at his June 6 commissioning ceremony. Standing with Mac is his handler, U.S. Air Force Maj. Scott Penney. Maj. McAfee, a golden retriever, joins U.S. Army Maj. Budd, a Labrador retriever who was commissioned in 2022, as one of BAMC’s two facility dogs. Facility dogs are being given honorary commissions into a service or are enlisted as a show of respect for their daily work of providing comfort to those in need and boosting morale and mental health.
