Archie spent seven years and several thousand hours of visitations as part of the hospital's facility dog program, which uses specially trained service dogs to assist in comforting patients and staff members and boosting morale and mental health during their daily rounds. Archie retired on March 7, 2017, and crossed the Rainbow Bridge on March 28, 2018. Facility dogs are being given honorary commissions or are enlisted into a service to show respect for their value and tireless good nature and empathy.
