Illinois National Guard Gold Star Families Enjoy Chicago Fire Boat Tour and Each Other

Air Force Maj. Gen. Rich Neely talks with Gold Star Mother Gay Eisenhauer and Gold Star Sister Seely Smith after the Chicago Fire Boat Architectural Tour on Lake Michigan and the Chicago River. Eisenhauer is the mother of Army Pfc. Wyatt Eisenhauer, who was killed in action on May 19, 2005 in Iraq. Seely is the sister of Illinois Army National Guard Sgt. Gerrick Smith, who was killed on July 29, 2009 in Afghanistan. Seely decided to honor her brother by spending the anniversary of his death with fellow Gold Star Family members. The July 29 boat tour was organized by the U.S. Army's Survivor Outreach Services and the Illinois National Guard for the 34 Illinois National Guard Gold Star Families whose service members were killed overseas since the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. The tour, led by Maj. Gen. Neely, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard, gave the Gold Star Families time to connect with each other and the leader of the Illinois National Guard.
