PENSACOLA, FL – (October 03, 2023) – Capt. Walter Brafford, commander, Naval Medical Forces Support Command (NMFSC), receives a tour and demonstration of the facilities and equipment used at Aviation Survival Training Center Pensacola from AWS1 Joshua Kasnick, Oct. 3. He, along with Command Master Chief Veronica Brittenum, received briefs and tours of Navy Medicine Operational Training Command (NMOTC)’s Pensacola facilities and were able to speak to and hear concerns from the NMOTC Sailors and those of its detachments and training sites located onboard Naval Air Station Pensacola. In May of 2023, Brafford assumed duties as NMFSC commander and his visit is part of his initial site visitation tour of the forces under his command. Naval Survival Training Institute (NSTI), a detachment of NMOTC, is comprised of eight ASTC’s and a headquarters unit which specialize in training the pilots, aircrew, and service members who support other specialized communities in the survival skills and techniques to survive aviation emergencies. Students and service members who complete training and courses will be equipped, with an understanding of stressors placed on the body, the rigors of emergency egress for survival in situations in hostile and austere environments. Navy Medicine Operational Training Command (NMOTC) is comprised of six nationwide detachments like NSTI that offer specialized medical training in the fields of aviation, aviation survival, surface and undersea warfare, expeditionary and special operations medicine.
