Brandon Valverde (right), a DPAA supply recovery non-commissioned officer, dig out a metal hit after an after an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) sweep during a DPAA recovery operation in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), Oct. 29, 2023. EOD sweeps are performed prior to every dig to ensure the safety of the team and to help locate possible life support evidence that may assist in the identification of missing personnel. There are currently 277 recoverable missing personnel from the Vietnam War whose remains are believed to be in Lao PDR.
