Sporting a throwback paint scheme honoring the Centennial of Naval Aviation, an F/A-18C Hornet from the U.S. Navy’s Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 31 (VX-31) known as the Dust Devils, takes off from Naval Base Ventura County Point Mugu in Southern California for a training mission on Aug. 10, 2023. VX-31 is based at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake in California’s Mojave Desert. Inspired by paint schemes of China Lake test jets from the 1960s, the retro paint job was unveiled in 2011.
