U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Myrick Lewis and Sgt. Maj. John Kemp, both assigned to the 7th Infantry Division, provide their input and section updates to the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force members during a bilateral sustainment brief at Camp Sendai, Japan, Dec. 10, 2023. As a part of U.S. Army Pacific's Operation Pathways, the 43rd iteration of Yama Sakura exercise, YS-85, is the first U.S. Army, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, and Australian Army command post exercise based in Japan. For over forty years, this exercise has demonstrated a continued commitment by both the United States and Japan to work together as dedicated allies in support of the U.S.-Japan security treaty and for continued peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
