emale recruits with the Infatería de Marina Colombia (Colombian Marine Corps) stand in formation during an award ceremony at the Base de Entrenamiento de Marina in Coveñas, Colombia, Jan 11, 2023. After the ceremony and for the first time in Colombian history, 60 women completed the Juramento de Bandera de Infantes de Marina after they completed three months of recruit training and joined the ranks in the Colombian Naval Infantry. U.S. Southern Command’s Women, Peace and Security (WPS) program recognizes the diverse roles women play as agents of change in preventing and resolving conflict, countering terrorism and violent extremism as well as building post-conflict peace and stability in the Western Hemisphere.
