Biologists preparing trot lines to collect Lake Sturgeon for population monitoring at the Melvin Price Locks and Dam in West Alton, Missouri on March 22, 2024. The St. Louis District, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers works with the Missouri Department of Conservation to monitor and improve the state endangered lake sturgeon populations on the Mississippi River and have seen spawning at this location for two years in a row. Lake sturgeon can grow to seven-feet-long.
