U.S. Army Gen. Randy A. George, Chief of Staff of the Army, awards a challenge coin to 1st Lt. Samuel Strobel, hailing from New London, Connecticut assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI), at the Mission Training Complex on Fort Drum, New York, July 16, 2024. Strobel was recognized for his time deployed to the Eastern Syria Security Area as a night battalion battle captain and his integral involvement in co-designing and programming the Randomized Enemy Action Contact Trainer software. A military custom known as a challenge coin is presented to a recipient to recognize and honor excellence and hard work, as well as fosters a sense of unit pride, and enhances esprit de corps.
