Builder 3rd Class Brandon Shortridge from Norfolk, Virginia (left) and Builder Constructionman Danny Nguyen from Huntington Beach, California (right), both assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5 reward the winner of a math competition with a lollipop. Petty Officer Shortridge temporarily substitutes as a math teacher for the 4th Grade students of Aplaya Elementary School. The NMCB 5 Construction Civic Activity Detail (CCAD) Philippines is constructing a two-classroom masonry building for the school. Seabees conduct CCAD operations like this one in order to demonstrate U.S. commitment, develop enduring relationships, improve public infrastructure for the delivery of essential services, and strengthen local institutions with host and partner nations around the world.
