Service members and staff from the Navy and Marine Corps Force Health Protection Command (NMCFHPC) and Navy Environmental Preventive Medicine Unit Two (NEPMU-2) participated in the annual Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) event, Sept. 20, 2024, Virginia Beach, Virginia. During the event Dr. Kimberly Terneus-Fischer, the lab director at NEPMU-2 performs a demonstration at the vinegar baking soda station. To do this, a bottle is partially filled with vinegar and a balloon is filled with baking soda. The balloon placed on the bottle and the baking soda is dumped into the bottle, creating a gas and filling up the balloon. The purpose of the station is to show students how acid-based substances react when expose to baking soda. (Navy photo by Desmond Martin)
