University of Florida's "Croc Docs", biologist and graduate student Brandon Welty, takes a photo as the sun sets. The team is just a mile into Everglades National Park, in the background they can hear the hum of vehicles driving on the Tamiami Trail.
Welty, keeps watch for gators from the front of the airboat, once the team's eyes adjust to the darkness they can see the reptile's red eyes gently bob and glide through the water.
Collecting field data is extremely important to RECOVER (REstoration COordination & VERification) which is made up of a multi-agency team of scientists, modelers, planners and resource specialists. The information they collect and synthesize informs the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP).
We are the nation's Environmental Engineers with over four thousand of the USACE workforce specializing in unique environmental disciplines.
