250106-N-CY609-1010 MCAS Iwakuni, Japan (Jan. 6, 2025) — Equipment Operator 2nd Class Gabriel Eller, project crew leader, briefs Cmdr. Travis Brinkman, commanding officer of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3, on project tracking and completion metrics for the MCAS Iwakuni Cap and Close Landfill project. The project involves capping a 13-acre landfill by excavating and relocating waste within boundary lines, installing an interim cover system, constructing temporary stormwater and erosion control features, and maintaining clearing and grubbing operations to reduce bird-aircraft strike hazards.
