NMCB-3 Commanding Officer Visit at MCAS Iwakuni

250106-N-CY609-1012 MCAS Iwakuni, Japan (Jan. 6, 2025) — Steelworker 3rd Class Kevin Caskey, project safety representative, briefs Cmdr. Travis Brinkman, commanding officer of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3, and others on safety measures for the MCAS Iwakuni Cap and Close Landfill project. The project consists of capping a 13-acre landfill by excavating and relocating waste within boundary lines, installing an interim cover system, constructing temporary stormwater and erosion control features, and maintaining clearing and grubbing operations to reduce bird-aircraft strike hazards. NMCB-3 serves as the stand-in engineering force for Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet, executing high-quality construction operations and supporting major combat operations in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility.
