Infantrymen assigned to 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, conduct a command-observed trench-clearing exercise during Exercise Gothic Sentinel at Camp Ethan Allen Training Site, Vermont, Feb. 22, 2025. A team leader instructed a simulated casualty to apply a tourniquet as the rest of the squad maneuvered under simulated enemy fire to secure a foothold in the trench before systematically clearing it. Wearing over-whites as winter camouflage, they maneuvered through deep snow and icy terrain, adapting their tactics to the challenging cold-weather environment.
