OLONGAPO, PHILIPPINES (Feb. 1, 2025) Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Erika Suarez, from Markham, Illinois, (right) and Fire Controlman 1st Class Ryan Leard, from Grants Pass, Oregon, (left) assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG 65), compete in a sack race with children from the Project Life Subic Chapel, in Olongapo, Philippines, Feb. 1. The children and Sailors formed four teams to compete in multiple games throughout the day. Benfold Sailors spent the day with the youth group as part of a community relations event with Project Life Subic, which is a ministry group that aims to help in developing the quality of life in the community by offering livelihood programs. Benfold is forward deployed and assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, the Navy’s Largest DESRON and U.S. 7th Fleet’s principal surface force.
