"Can I get a basketball to pretend I am going against Elden Campbell," said U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Darrell Daniels, from El Paso, Texas, after meeting the former professional basketball player at Camp As Sayliyah, Qatar, June 2. Campbell was a first-round Lakers pick in a 1990 NBA draft. He finished his career with the Los Angeles team as a leading shot-blocker. Campbell was part of a team of five former NBA and WNBA players traveling to military installations in Southwest Asia to meet deployed service members. The five-star team included: Elden Campbell, Rushia Brown, Tom Gugliotta, Semeka Randall and Shawn Bradley. "I am a Lakers fan," said Daniels. "My son is also a fan, and player. He would have loved this."
