The Guardian Challenge competition to discover the best CBRNE Response Team, or CRT, included warrior and soldier skills like weapons qualification, and weapons familiarization, the Army Physical Fitness Test, a 50 question written exam, obstacle course events, land navigation, a foot march wearing the Army Combat Helmet, body armor and a full ruck sack and combatives, as well as specific CRT challenges like taking samples from a make-shift lab and going through a decontamination line. Here, Sgt. 1st Class Tantra Peyton is loading secure frequencies and programming a hand held radio before performing a radio check to ensure the radio is working properly. Competitors also had to load a man-portable or vehicle-mounted radio and perform the same checks in this timed event.
