Rct. Kala Sullivan, left, yells to her partner, Rct. Courtney Blanchard, to move forward on a combat training course as part of Basic Warrior Training on July 9, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits of Platoon 4025, Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, Sullivan, 22, from New Castle, Pa., and Blanchard, 20, from Grand Prairie, Texas, worked together to overcome each obstacle on the course. Recruits maneuvered over and under various obstacles such as concertina wire, walls and small moats while wearing combat equipment. Basic Warrior Training focuses on field skills required to transform recruits into basically trained Marines. Papa Company is scheduled to graduate Aug. 2, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent for females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
