A Bulgarian sailor holds the caving ladder as Petty Officer 1st Class Nicholas Heimsoth, gunners mate, ascends the ladder to reach an upper deck level during Visit, Board, Search and Seizure drills aboard the guided-missile cruiser USS San Jacinto. Bulgarian sailors are training with the crew of the San Jacinto in VBSS and damage control techniques and procedures. USS San Jacinto is operating in the Black Sea as part of a larger international team effort to improve maritime safety and security for a region free of trans-national threats built on cooperative security that uses existing political-military constructs.
