A trumpet player of the U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps plays a brief solo during the band’s performance March 19, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. The Marines of the Battle Color Detachment, based at Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., traveled to the island to perform before more than 1,000 recruits, Marines and civilians. The purpose of the Battle Color Detachment is to provide musical support and entertainment while exemplifying the discipline and professionalism of the Corps. The U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps is the only full time active-duty drum corps in the U.S. Armed Forces. The performance was part of the detachment’s 2014 spring tour. (Photo by Cpl.
