Marines with Range Company, Weapons and Field Training Battalion, visit Fort Sumter near Charleston, S.C., for a military education trip Feb. 21, 2014. The Marines spent the day visiting different historic sites and learning about Fort Sumter’s significance in American history. The trip was part of the unit’s professional military education program, which aims to expand the Marines’ knowledge and skill outside their primary occupational specialties. Fort Sumter is best known as the site of the first military engagement of the Civil War on April 12, 1861.
