Sgt. Christopher Saldaris, a 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team Soldier from McHenry, Ill., takes cover in a car while an attack ensues at the front gate. Saldaris was in the middle of a search on the car as part of a base defense exercise at Forward Operating Base Patriot on Fort Bragg, N.C., when he heard gunfire at the entry control point. This exercise is one of many others the 33rd IBCT will take part in before their mobilization to Afghanistan later this year. Soldiers of the 33rd IBCT expect to return home later next year.
