2nd Lt. Lucas Williams, from Carbondale, Ill., leads a quick reaction force to battle at the front gate during a base defense exercise. The exercise taught 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team Soldiers how to react to real-life situations they may encounter at an Entry Control Point overseas. The 33rd IBCT is deploying to Afghanistan later this year and can be expected to return to Illinois late in 2009.
