Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Kristin M. Butts, from Tulsa, Okla., directs an MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter from the Battle Cats of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 73 as it takes off from the flight deck of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Dewey (DDG 105). Dewey is on deployment with the Carl Vinson Strike Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations supporting Valiant Shield. Valiant Shield is a U.S.–only biennial exercise in which participation will focus on the integration of joint training among U.S. forces.
