William Conner, a Company C, 2nd Battalion “Lancer,” 5th Cavalry Regiment Veteran, renders a salute during the playing of Taps in honor of fallen Lancer Soldiers during a memorial ceremony Oct. 3 at Fort Hood, Texas. Conner also rang a ceremonial bell after the recitation of every name of every Soldier who gave the ultimate sacrifice. The memorial was part of a Vietnam Veteran reunion for those who served from 1967 to 1972 and afterward, hosted in part, by the Lancer Battalion of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.
