Commissary at an Army/Red Cross hospital near Paris in Contrexeville, France, June 16, 1918. This photo provides interesting insights into what Army commissaries were like, as well as customer service in those commissaries, 1918-style. The sign on the counter says: "FOLLOW RED TAPE - It's Quicker in the Long Run. Desk 1 - Submit list. Desk 2 - Pay bill. Desk 3 - Receive goods. MAKE IT SNAPPY." The clerk on far left looks none too friendly; we can only hope he was trying to look businesslike for the photographer.
