NEWPORT NEWS, Va., (April 8, 2016) Pre-Commissioning Unit Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) Command Master Chief Donnie Novak presents a charge book to Commanding Officer Capt. John F. Meier during a change of command held in the hangar bay. The ship's chiefs mess presented the book to Meier in recognition of his appointment to honorary chief petty officer. “Having a commanding officer be appointed an honorary chief petty officer by the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy is extremely rare. Capt. Meier’s dedication to excellence and fair treatment to our Sailors is why he is considered part of the chief family,” said Ford Command Master Chief Donnie Novak.
