160601-N-NF288-124 PACIFIC OCEAN (June 1, 2016) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class (AW/SW) Christopher Howard, from Athens, Georgia, gathers a sample of JP-5 fuel during a replenishment at sea aboard the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The sample is gathered to check that it’s free of sediment before filling the fuel tanks. If there’s sediment in the fuel, it needs to be flushed until it comes out clean. Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
