MOTUTAPU ISLAND, Tonga — Cpl. Derek C. Brisendine (Right) primes a bangalor explosive with the initiation device during a live-fire range to clear an obstacle, July 27, 2016, on Motutapu Island, Tonga, as part of a multi-national, bilateral exercise, between U.S. and Tongan forces, designed to increase interoperability and relations. The service members combined and applied skills practiced during the exercise in a culminating range such as buddy rushing, high explosive exploitation, beach insertion and demolition. Brisendine, from Eustis, Florida, is a combat engineer with Task Force Koa Moana and is originally assigned to Company B, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
