CAMP COURTNEY, OKINAWA, Japan—Children play underneath a parachute during a friendship day at the Chura Warabi Center Feb. 16 aboard Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan. To make it easier to learn names during the event, each child wore a nametag in the opposite language. Knowing each other’s’ names was all it took for the kids to connect and bridge the culture gap. “More events like this in the future would be great,” said Peggy Vinyard, an English teacher at Kanasa, and a Stockton, Missouri, native. “It gives the children the opportunity to experience another culture and brings the community closer.”
