170731-N-NP779-056 NEWPORT, Ore.- (Aug. 1, 2017) Local media records as Seaman Jerome Tandog, assigned to Beach Master Unit 1, directs Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1630 to a landing ramp at Newport, Oregon, during a Defense Support of Civil Authority (DSCA) demonstration Monday. The DSCA exercise is a joint effort between local emergency responders, the National Guard and the U.S. Navy, is held in conjunction with Seattle Seafair Fleet Week and is designed to simulate domestic response efforts, across all levels of government, to a catastrophic disaster.
