170731-N-NP779-098 NEWPORT, Ore. (July 31, 2017) - Sailors assigned to Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1630, deployed from USS Anchorage (LPD 23), and civilian emergency management personnel practice loading and deploying motorized vehicles and simulated supplies over the landing ramp at Newport, Ore., during a Defense Support of Civil Authority (DSCA) demonstration. The DSCA exercise is a joint effort between local emergency responders, the National Guard and the U.S. Navy, designed to simulate domestic response efforts, across all levels of government, to a catastrophic disaster.
