Air Force Staff Sgt. Mellissa Gschwend gives a concerned look at her five-year-old daughter, Madison, after the two arrived at Travis Air Force Base, Calif., from Yokota Air Base, Japan, March 25. Following the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on March 11, hundreds of family members from military bases in Japan voluntarily relocated to the United States after radiation from crippled Japanese nuclear energy plants was detected in some areas. Gschwend and her husband, both Security Forces airmen at Yokota, decided to leave Madison and her infant sister, McKenna, with the childrens' grandparents for the time being. The evacuation effort was part of Operation Pacific Passage.
