Sgt. Vernerd Myers, of the 1223rd Engineering Company, South Carolina Army Guard, cuts old fencing here to help build a schoolhouse nearby. Soldiers of the 1223rd are supporting Guard units around the country, including Air Force and Navy Seabee units, in Beyond the Horizon 2011. The 4-month-long civic assistance and training exercise will help build local Salvadoran infrastructure, give U.S. soldiers valuable training and strengthen U.S.-Salvadoran relations.
