MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – U.S. Marines with 1st Reconnaissance Battalion and Soldiers with the Western Army Infantry Regiment, Japan Ground Self Defense Force pull their combat rubber raiding craft ashore after helocasting out of a Ch-53 Super Stallion off the coast of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton during exercise Iron Fist 2018, Jan. 18. Helocasting allows reconnaissance teams to travel longer distances from naval shipping before being dropped off for their final advancement to an objective area. Capable maritime forces help ensure stability and prosperity around the world, and bilateral exercises, like Iron Fist, help partner nations improve their own maritime capability.
