MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Pfc. Timothy Andrews, a Forward Observer with 1st Air Naval Gun Liaison Company, plots grid coordinates on a map during a fire support coordination exercise aboard San Clemente Island during exercise Iron Fist 2018, Jan. 29. During the exercise, U.S. Marines with 1st ANGLICO and Japan Ground Self Defense Force Soldiers worked side-by-side to control indirect fires and close air support aboard San Clemente Island. Iron Fist brings together U.S. Marines from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and soldiers from the JGSDF to improve their bilateral planning, communicating, and conducting of combined amphibious operations.
