MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Japan Ground Self Defense Force Soldiers unload form a Landing Craft Air Cushion onto San Clemente Island during exercise Iron Fist 2018, Jan. 30. While on San Clemente Island U.S. Marines and JGSDF conducted fire support coordination training, calling in air strikes and plotting grid coordinates for artillery to strike. Exercise Iron Fist brings together U.S. Marines from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and soldiers from the JGSDF, Western Army Infantry Regiment, to improve their bilateral planning, communicating, and conducting of combined amphibious operations.
