Shannon Baird (background), a performance enhancement specialist with the Comprehensive Soldier Fitness-Performance and Resilience Enhancement Program on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., reminds Spc. Alexandra Czarnota, a human intelligence collector with Company B, 109th Military Intelligence Battalion, to control her breathing while speaking over the radio during a pre-execution rehearsal Aug. 10 before a convoy counter-improvised explosive device range that was part of a 10-day field training exercise to prepare the battalion for its upcoming deployment within the next year. Baird, who has worked for the past six months with Pendleton's company to assist in increasing the performance of its soldiers and their methods “ both mentally and physically" for preparing themselves for any task, spent each day in the field with the company prepping it for each training task the night before.
