    Soldiers of the 117th Trench Mortar Battery, 42nd Division, cross a bridge at Kreuzberg, Germany during occupation duties January 3, 1919, following the armistice of World War I. The Soldiers originally served in the Maryland National Guard before mobilization. The 42nd Division, known as the Rainbow Division for its inclusion of various National Guard units from across the United States, served as an occupation force following the armistice that ended World War I.
