Officers of the 117th Trench Mortar Battery, 42nd Division, at Kreuzberg, Germany during occupation duties January 3, 1919, following the armistice of World War I. The Soldiers originally served in the 3rd and 4th Companies Maryland National Guard’s Coastal Artillery before mobilization. From left, Lt. O.B. Morrow, Lt. H.H. Hunley, Lt. C.L. Michael, Lt. F.F. Reade and Lt. H.C. Gersumky. The 42nd Division, known as the Rainbow Division for its inclusion of various National Guard units from across the United States, served as an occupation force following the armistice that ended World War I.
