U.S. Marines inspect the thermal optic system on an Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV) aboard the U.S.N.S Pililaau (TAKR-304), March 18, 2019. The Marines are preparing and inspecting the AAV’s for the maritime prepositioning force (MPF) offload for Exercise Balikatan 2019. Balikatan is a Tagalog phrase that means “shoulder-to-shoulder” and is an annual exercise between the U.S. military and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
