U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Christopher Blossom inspects the serial number on an Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV) March 19, 2019, aboard the U.S.N.S Pililaau. The Marines are preparing and inspecting the AAV’s for the maritime prepositioning force (MPF) offload for Exercise Balikatan. Balikatan is a Tagalog phrase that means “shoulder-to-shoulder” and is an annual exercise between the U.S. military and the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The Pililaau is a Marine Corps MPF ship used to deliver Marine assets to areas in the Indo-Pacific region.
