U.S. Army Spec. Benny Martinez Perez from the 471 Engineer Company in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, provides instructions about the Technical Survey of a Known Area to Ecuadorian army soldiers from the Demining Command in Marco Aurelio Subian Martinez military fort at La Balvina Quito, Ecuador, on July 30, 2012. A Technical Survey is a part of a continuous process of gathering, processing and analyzing of data, which enables the overall reassessment of mine situation. U.S. Army South deployed a team of soldiers to Ecuador for a two-week long course as part of the Subject Matter Expert Exchange program sponsored by USSOUTHCOM, in which they exchange techniques and ideas to improve their workflow and knowledge.
