Ecuadorian army soldiers from the Demining Command in General Marco Aurelio Subian Martinez military fort at La Balvina Quito, Ecuador, work on the technical survey of a known area while U.S. Army Spec. Benny Martinez Perez from the 471 Engineer Company in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, looks on the progress of the survey on July 30 2012. This technique is to safely prepare the terrain on a minefield to start the demining process on a known minefield area. U.S. Army South deployed a team of soldiers to Ecuador for a two-week long course as part of the Subject Matter Expert Exchange program sponsored by USSOUTHCOM in which they exchange techniques and ideas to improve their workflow and knowledge.
