U.S. Army National Guard Spc. Terry Mills, 51, reels in Staff Sgt. Patrick Rogers, of Galveston, Texas, during hoist training near Forward Operating Base Salerno, Afghanistan, July 4. Mills joined the National Guard four years ago, after retiring as a fire department cheif. "We make a difference," said Mills, a medevac crew chief with Valkyrie Medevac, a joint Mississippi-Texas National Guard unit. "When people hear what unit I'm with, they say 'you guys ave guts. You're doing something we couldn't do. We're glad you're here. Thank God you're here."
