U.S. Army National Guard Spc. Terry Mills, 51, joined the National Guard four years ago, at age 47. The retired firefighter wasn't done giving back to his community, and now serves on Forward Operating Base Salerno as a crew chief with Valkyrie Medevac, a joint Mississippi-Texas National Guard unit supporting the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade. "A lot of people asked if I could get out of deploying," said Mills. "This is what I trained for. Do I get scared at times? Oh yeah. I get scared out of my mind. My training just kicks in a little better. If you don't get scared, there's something wrong with you."
